GJG Announces Representation of Artist Alice Irwin

Art Plugged, June 5, 2024

Gillian Jason Gallery, the first commercial space in the UK dedicated solely to championing art by women, proudly announces its representation of sculptor and multimedia artist Alice Irwin. Currently featured at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in Wakefield, Irwin's work is also on display in her first institutional show, "Chinwag," at Pitzhanger Manor and Gallery in London.

From June 2022 to December 2023, Irwin's sculptural series "Peeps" was showcased at Trinity Buoy Wharf in London, marking a significant milestone in her artistic journey. Her solo show "People Play" was held at The Piece Hall in 2020, and in 2018 she had a solo exhibition at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. In 2017, Irwin won the Contemporary Art Trust prize.

Irwin's work explores the relationship between figurative and abstract imagery, characterised by her distinctive visual style of simplified body shapes, repeating symbols, and bright colors-typically pink, orange, and blue. Childhood experiences, games, and memories are recurring themes in her sculptures and printmaking, capturing the essence of childhood naivety.
