‘Where The Wild Things Grow II’ is part of the series ‘All the Good Things’, produced for a project in collaboration with The Land Gardeners. These works reflect Cadogan’s heightened awareness of the natural world, resulting from the altered lifestyle caused by the global pandemic. The artist says: ‘These paintings reflect on ways to live, finding the quiet and relishing in moments when we are surrounded by nature.’ The piece, depicting an uplifting, peaceful setting, speaks about the pleasure of the world around us, placing emphasis on the growth of natural elements. Here too there is an element of dreamlike, intuitive painting, with the sculpture in the background being inspired by the artist’s memory of a work that is not well-defined, that exists in her mind but does not pinpoint a specific reference. Being the bust of a man, it also creates a new dynamic, in contrast with the usual exclusive portrayal of women.
