Bokani is a Zimbabwean-born, UK based multidisciplinary artist whose practice includes abstract glass painting and computational installations. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Politics with Economics from the University of Bath, and a Masters in Computational Art from Goldsmiths College, University of London. Alongside her studio practice Bokani is a climate campaigner, working to promote climate justice in London with local and global partners. The artist's practice addresses themes such as integral ecology, climate justice and complicity and is grounded in the ethics and liberatory capacities of Black feminist thought.
Bokani's work is characterised by spontaneous, vibrant colour, fuelled by an exploration of themes engaging the viewer intellectually, emotionally and spiritually. Painting has empowered her to move past the childhood loss of both parents to resolve questions of global female identity, black African heritage and belonging.
Bokani exhibited her paintings and installations throughout the UK and Europe and has recently been awarded a public art commission by the London Mayor's Office. The artist has been featured in international publications such as Al-Jazeera, The Independent and the Art Newspaper. Recently Bokani has been invited to the National Gallery of Zimbabwe for a residency and exhibition. She chooses not to use her surname in art as an objection to patriarchal naming practices.
