Bi Rongrong currently lives and works in Shanghai, China. For the artist, urban architecture is a source of creative direction, experiment, and self-discovery. Bi investigates cityscapes, observing fragments of urbanisation and translating them onto canvas, reimagining them in the form of patterns, designs and textures. In Bi's production, the margins dividing human, urban and the natural world are distorted and re-purposed according to an undefinable set of aesthetic rules. Bi Rongrong employs manual and digital manipulation and rendering to produce mixed-media works including painting, textiles, thread-work, collage, video animation, and installation.
After completing the MA of Chinese Traditional Landscape Painting at Sichuan University, she obtained the MA of Painting Department of the Frank Mohr Institute in the Netherlands. Her works have been exhibited in various important art institutions and public art projects, including Cass Sculpture Foundation (UK), Perrotin Shanghai, A Thousand Plateaus Art Space (Chengdu), Hangzhou Triennial of Fiber Art, Shenzhen-Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture, Shanghai, etc. She was the winner of the Spirit of Ecstasy Challenge in Muse, the Rolls-Royce Art Program, and created the artwork Stitched Urban Skin (2022).
