Eileen Agar was a British painter and photographer associated with the Surrealist movement, and in 1936, became the first and only British woman to show works at the International Surrealist Exhibition, New Burlington Galleries. Agar's reputation in the art world grew rapidly and by 1940, her works appeared in Surrealist exhibitions in Amsterdam, New York, Paris and Tokyo.
After the Second World War, sixteen solo exhibitions of Agar's were held between 1946-1985. In 1990, the artist was elected as a Royal Academy Associate for her influence and contribution to the Surrealist movement.
