Pippa El-Kadhi Brown is a London-based artist whose work delves into the intricate relationship between domestic spaces, consciousness, and the human psyche. Her paintings often feature ethereal skies and shapeshifting entities set against fractured planes, blurring the boundaries between reality and fantasy. In her work, El-Kadhi Brown "playfully disembowels the anatomy of the domestic environment, gutting it from the inside out," as she describes. Through distortion, El-Kadhi Brown transforms these spaces into intellective experiences, inviting viewers to engage deeply with the environments they inhabit. El-Kadhi Brown's use of gentle pastels and hazily remembered landforms creates dreamy, otherworldly scenes that dissolve the boundaries between the real and fantastical. Her work continues to evolve, exploring the enigmatic dialogues between space and human.
El-Kadhi Brown (b.1996, British - Iraqi) earned her BA in Painting from the University of Brighton's School of Art in 2018 and later completed her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in 2022, supported by The Ali H. Alkazzi Scholarship Award. El-Kadhi Brown's art has been showcased internationally, with notable solo exhibitions including ‘Where the Dust Settles’ (2022) at CBU Gallery in Taipei, ‘Around You, Within You, or Nowhere at All’ (2020) at Ashurst in London, and ‘House Plants’ (2019) at Creekside Projects in London. Her contributions to contemporary art have been recognised with several accolades, including the Ashurst Emerging Artist Prize in 2020 and the Freelands Painting Fellowship Award in 2024.
