GJG will be debuting at 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair with solo booth exhibting a selection of works by Milan Young. This will be the Young's first appearance at 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair.
Milan Young's new solo booth, titled 'Third Stone From the Sun', takes inspiration from the Jimi Hendrix song, of the same name. As Hendrix reflects on his place in the universe in the song, Young reflects through her art on the past year of her life and the challenges faced during her journey.
Young's work explores themes of heritage, slavery, and intergenerational trauma through a unique blend of chaos and premeditation. Her paintings, which often reflect her emotional state, are characterized by hidden layers and a strong focus on color theory.
